Maryland men’s lacrosse midfielder Jared Bernhardt earned Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week for his performance in Saturday’s 15-8 win over Michigan.

He scored three goals and registered an assist against the Wolverines, tying a career high with four points. Penn State goalkeeper Colby Kneese shared the honor after making 13 saves Sunday against then-No. 5 Ohio State.

Bernhardt, who entered this season as the No. 3 recruit in the nation, has 13 goals and six assists through his first eight games. He’s notched at least one point in each contest, besting attackman Matt Rambo’s first-year streak of seven in 2013. His freshman points streak is the program’s longest since 2003, when Joe Waters scored or assisted in each of his first 15 games.

The Terps next play Saturday against No. 1 Penn State, the first top-ranked program to visit Maryland Stadium since Duke came to College Park on March 1, 2014.
