Notre Dame will become the 15th member of the ACC, making it the conference’s third addition in the last year, officials announced today.
The Atlantic Coast Conference’s Council of Presidents unanimously voted to accept the school as a full member in all sports except football, in which it will only play five games against conference schools.
“We have monitored the changing conference landscape for many months and have concluded that moving to the ACC is the best course of action for us,” Notre Dame’s Vice President and Director of Athletics John Swarbrick said in a statement. “We are able to maintain our historic independence in football, join in the ACC’s non-BCS bowl package and provide a new and extremely competitive home for our other sports.”
The ACC also brought in Syracuse University and the University of Pittsburgh last September, both of which will join in 2013.
