The Terrapins wrestling team defeated N.C. State, 23-14, for its second consecutive victory and third in four matches.

Nursing an 18-14 lead going into the final match, No. 1 184-pound Jimmy Sheptock put the match away with a dominant 16-0 victory over Michael Macchiavello.

The match began at 197 pounds, with Christian Boley taking on the Wolfpack’s KaRonne Jones. After feeling Jones out for the first two periods, the senior became more aggressive and secured a late single-leg takedown to take the 3-2 win.

In the most exciting match of the night, No. 6 285-pound Spencer Myers lost a hotly contested 11-8 showdown to longtime rival No. 7 Nick Gwiazdowski. Gwiazdowski had the upper hand for the majority of the contest, using his quickness to overwhelm Myers. But while trailing 10-3 in the third period, Myers had a nifty reversal on the floor before barely missing a fall. Gwiazdowski hung on for the win.

Billy Rappo won another close match, 3-2, at 125 pounds to put the Terps (7-8, 3-3) up 6-3 before 133-pound Tyler Goodwin stepped to the mat to take on Chris Wilkes. As the clock wound down in the final period, the two were locked in a 2-2 tie. Finally, Goodwin grabbed Wilke’s right leg, and attempted to sweep his left leg out from under him.

After several tries, the freshman finally took Wilkes to the ground, sealing the 4-2 victory and putting the Terps up, 9-3, inciting a hearty roar from the Terps fans.

Shyheim Brown defeated Sam Speno at 141 pounds, 4-3, to put the Terps ahead 12-3 at halftime.

Frank Goodwin began the second half with some excitement at 149 pounds. Brian Hamann nearly pinned the Gambrills native in the second period, but Goodwin notched a reversal, taking a 4-3 lead. In the next period, he registered a takedown before pinning Hamann’s shoulders to the ground for a fall, putting the Terps ahead, 18-3.

The Wolfpack made a run in the next two matches, though, as 157-pound Ben Dorsay and 164-pound Tyler Manion both dropped major decisions, putting NC State ahead, 18-11. After 174-pound Ty Snook fell, 7-2, Sheptock finished off the night with a 16-0 win.
