UMD men: 101
As I find myself entering the second semester of my senior year, I have concluded that a lot of men at this university fall into certain categories. Now, I know there are many types of men here and not all will fall into these categories, but if you do find yourself in the presence of one of these men, here is a bit of an inside look..
Fraternity brother
Pros: Fun, usually good guys, friendly and very social .
Cons: Busy, not always looking for a relationship, around women a lot, big partiers.
Date-ability: High if they are looking for a relationship, low if they only want someone to hook-up with.
Tips: You cannot force these men to commit, so the minute you realize they are not in it for the long haul, definitely stop responding to his midnight texts.
Athlete
Pros: Bragging rights, great bodies, usually very social, hard workers, very determined.
Cons: Busy schedules, women flock to them, inflated egos, may not care as much about grades or school, like the chase.
Date-Ability: Low until they become older and get sick of the random women.
Tips: Try to meet them during their off season because they have more time. Also keep in mind you might not be the only girl on their radar so be careful when dealing with these men.
Druggie
Pros Have a lot of down time, generally open-minded, usually pretty nice guys.
Cons: Tend to be lazy, stay in a lot, may be taking other drugs you do not know about.
Date-Ability: Medium, depending on what drugs they happen to do and how much time they actually want to dedicate to a relationship.
Tips: If you are not into drugs at all, this guy is definitely not for you. If that’s your thing, go for it!
Hipster
Pros: Always something new, usually know the best hidden spots, and are open to new places and people.
Cons: Possibility of being pretentious, can only be found in places you probably haven’t found yet yourself, can be self centered.
Date-Ability: Medium.
Tips: Hipsters can be great boyfriends, but be on the look out for the type of guys who are only interested in what is new and will easily throw out what is old, because he might do the same to you.
Commuters:
Pros: Family oriented, will value the time you have together more, always looking to make more friends.
Cons: Issues with parents, hard to hang out with, have to leave at the end of the school day.
Date-Ability: Medium, depending on whether or not you want to deal with his parents.
Tips: If you are someone who is really busy during the week but has more time to hang out on weekends, this might be the guy for you. Also, these guys will generally be at Stamp Student Union or McKeldin Library if they stay past their classes. If you are looking to meet a commuter, look no further.
ROTC fellas
Pros: Great bodies, strong values, and good heads on their shoulders.
Cons: Busy, strict schedules, will probably have to travel after graduation.
Date-Ability: High, if you can handle their schedules. Majority of these men have their lives together so they are definitely worth a look into.
Tips: The schedules of these men is generally pretty clear cut so if you are the type of person who needs to spend a lot of time with your boyfriend, this may not be the best match for you.
Nerds
Pros: A lot are looking for relationships, generally nice guys, treat women well, may be socially awkward.
Cons: School work may be a higher priority than you, probably stay in a lot, may be constantly stressed out from school.
Date-Ability: High, because most of them will appreciate the women they date
Tips: These guys value women who value their school work so if you are not the most enthusiastic about school, this guy may not be for you.
Regardless of the type of man you are interested in, remember that if they are interested in you, they will not only pursue you, but make it clear that they want you. If none of these men show you that enthusiasm, regardless of what type of guy they are, then they are not the guy for you.
