Welcome back, fellow Americans. In honor of the current furor enveloping the American tradition of Christmas, we here at the Lite Fare are gathering another head of steam to give you what you’ve always wanted for Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/Ramadan/International Language Day: A list of potential gift items you could get for that special newsmaker in your life.

So, in the spirit of reading, it’s time to hit up that Amazon.com account and give your newsmakers just what they need this holiday season.

There are only two things: One, don’t put off the shopping until the last minute, and two, newsprint makes for outstanding gift-wrapping paper.

Cheers from the Lite Fare.

University administrators “dealing” with crime

Never has the prospect of getting mugged been so easily dispelled with clever use of rhetoric, a cautious response and a rosey perspective. Unfortunately, robbery is not like the president’s State of the Union speech – or the sleepy, 320-pound guest on your Commons apartment’s couch – you can’t spin it.

Athletics Department

We’re not making fun, but when a potential Hoff showing of “Gigli” is outdrawing a home women’s basketball game for attendance (and they’re actually good!), you know you’re in trouble.

SGA President Andrew Rose

Memo to self: When addressing potentially important policy, let’s not wear polyester warm ups. In other news, an equation: Shuttle-UM access + Criminals = Bad News.

Student Entertainment Events

Ha! If you thought people were beginning to forget about the Art Attack fiasco, just you wait. And if we see “White Snake” and “Insane Clown Posse” as our headliners for the concert, well, don’t say we didn’t warn you.

College Park City Council members

Don’t look now, folks, but with the upcoming exodus of students for Winter Break, a few things will happen: You’ll see a lot less drunken revelry around College Park … at all hours. You will see far fewer stumbling 20-somethings yelling, “You’re my boy, Blue!” at 2 a.m. in city neighborhoods. And maybe, just maybe, a lot fewer victims in yet-to-have-happened crimes will be students. Not that it should deter you from actually continuing your first few bits of good work against the crime issue.
