A University of Maryland, University College student was among three people who died in a Silver Spring car crash early Sunday morning, according to a Montgomery County Police Department release.
Police identified Cesar Alarcon Noriega, 21, of Meridian Place NW in Washington, as one of the victims in the fatal crash. Noriega was a student at UMUC and a bank teller at Bank of America, according to an article in The Washington Post and his social media profiles.
A 2003 Chevrolet Suburban traveling east on East-West Highway near Washington Avenue went off the road, hitting a tree around 3:20 a.m. Sunday, according to a Montgomery County Police Department release. The vehicle ended up on its side and officers arrived at the scene, pronouncing three passengers dead, according to the release.
The other five passengers were transported to nearby hospitals, one with serious injuries and the others with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release.
Montgomery Country Police identified Melissa Roxanna Argueta, 24, and Yeny Karina Vincente DeLeon, 23, both of Silver Spring, who also died in the collision.
The Montgomery County Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit detectives are continuing to investigate whether seatbelt use, alcohol or speed were factors in the incident, according to the release.
