The Terrapins football team has added Oklahoma State transfer quarterback Daxx Garman, the program announced Thursday afternoon.
Garman has one year of eligibility remaining and will be able to play immediately.
Garman, who earned his undergraduate degree at Oklahoma State, will pursue a master’s degree in supply chain management at this university.
“Coach Edsall has done a great job with the football program and he truly cares about his players,” Garman said in a release. “I’m very excited to compete in the Big Ten Conference. Maryland is an outstanding university and I’m excited to further my education and continue playing football. I enjoyed my visit in College Park and I’m excited to have this opportunity.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound signal caller redshirted his first season at Arizona before transferring to the Cowboys. He sat out the 2012 season per NCAA transfer rules before serving as a backup in 2013. Last season, he started eight games while throwing for 2,041 passing yards, 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
With former Terps quarterback C.J. Brown graduated, Garman will have an opportunity to battle for the starting job in his final year of eligibility. He will compete against senior Caleb Rowe, redshirt junior Perry Hills and redshirt sophomore Shane Cockerille.
With four-star quarterback recruit Dwayne Haskins Jr. set to join the Terps in 2016, Garman will help bridge the gap under center.

“We are excited that Daxx will be joining our program,” coach Randy Edsall said in a release. “He is an experienced quarterback who has proven himself as an accomplished starter in the Big 12, helping to lead his team to a postseason bowl game. Daxx is an outstanding student who has displayed tremendous poise and maturity during his college career. He comes in knowing he is competing for the starting quarterback position and is looking forward to the competition and being part of our football family.”
