The Terrapins women’s soccer team grabbed the No. 14 spot in the season’s first NCAA RPI rankings, released yesterday.

The top four schools are all in the ACC, including Wake Forest, which the Terps beat 1-0 on Sunday, at No. 2. There are also six ACC teams rounding out the top 10. Maryland is the seventh-highest ranked ACC team.

The two lowest ranked ACC teams are also some of the conference’s newest members. Syracuse is No. 69 and Pittsburgh isn’t even in the top 100, checking in at No. 141.

Notre Dame, which the Terps play Thursday, is No. 8 in the rankings.

The Big Ten has just one member school in the top 10, Penn State at No. 7, and four in the top 20. Northwestern is the lowest ranked conference team at No. 170.

The RPI rankings listed 327 colleges with Division 1 women’s soccer programs.

In the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Continental Tire NCAA Division I women’s soccer rankings, released every Tuesday, Maryland checks in at No. 21. The rankings last came out on Sept. 17.
