Maryland men’s lacrosse attackman Colin Heacock was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in a 12-11 victory over No. 8 Yale on Saturday.
Heacock stepped up while fellow starting attackmen Matt Rambo and Dylan Maltz failed to reach their season scoring averages against the Bulldogs. He recorded three goals and two assists, equaling a career high with five points.
Heacock has been a key member of the Terps’ offense over the past two campaigns. As a junior last season, he set career marks for goals (42), assists (12) and points (54). Through four games this year, he’s accumulated nine scores and dished out seven assists.
His presence has helped make Maryland’s attack one of the most dangerous in the nation. The Terps rank second in the Big Ten in scoring offense with 15.5 goals per game, and they’ve notched double-digit goals in every contest this season.
Heacock joins Rambo as the second Maryland player to earn Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week this month. The attackmen, who lead the squad in points, face a difficult test Saturday at No. 4 Notre Dame, which held the Terps to a season-low four goals last year.
