Visible Proofs: Forensic Views of the Body
at the National Library of Medicine
Attention all CSI obsessors and 24 enthusiasts. We need you. The time has come for you to solve a case – or at least see how someone else did.
The National Library of Medicine in Bethesda offers an exhibit that’s not for the faint of heart. The “Forensic Views of the Body” exhibit offers a wide array of displays, ranging from the sweet and innocent – true-crime comics and fingerprint kits – to the slightly spooky – coffin-and skull-shaped poison bottles. Don’t scoff if you think that’s all kids stuff, because it gets better – re-creation of crime scenes and the implements used in Abraham Lincoln’s autopsy are also on display.
The exhibit is open daily and is free, but times vary. It is Metro-accessible and a government-issed ID is required for entrance.
Cabaret at the Arena Stage in Washington
When a young journalist falls for a saucy woman, the storyline sounds intriguing. When that woman is also an entertainer at a raunchy nightclub in Berlin who woos a bisexual young man, only to have both of them be seduced by a rich playboy, the storyline gets extraordinarily captivating. Oh yeah, all this happens while the Nazis are invading the country during the 1930s. And it’s a musical.
Tony award-winning Cabaret is a time-honored classic, secretly fullfilling everyone’s guilty pleasures. Everyone is “Welcome” to attend the performance at the Arena Stage in Washington for the starting price of $55. The show runs from now until Oct. 29.
Comedians of Comedy Tour at the Black Cat in Washington
While chocolate is a good start, laughter is the best medicine. Give your mind some much-needed endorphins and check out stand-up comedians Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, Morgan Murphy and Eugene Mirman on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. at the Blact Cat in Washington.
Oswalt is truely a king – a “King of Queens” that is. You’ll recognize him as the lovable Spence Olchin from the hit CBS sitcom. He’s not the only one on the tour who’s had on-camera experience.
“The Piranha” Posehn had shining roles in Halo 2 as “Grunt” and MTV’s Comedy Hour. His signature “wild rock ‘n’ roll” stand-up style is sure to please.
Writer and actress Murphy, who has shown off her talents on Jimmy Kimmel Live and Crank Yankers, will have promising material as well.
Wrapping up this crazy foursome is Mirman. A regular opener for the comedy troupe Stella, Mirman’s stand-up has appeared in venues across the country.
Don’t miss out on this opportunity to get a dose of the good stuff before the weekend hits.
