With less than a month to go until Art Attack, SEE officials still have not released any information about the event, continuing a trend of last-minute announcements started last year.
Officials in Student Entertainment Events have not made an official statement on the annual concert normally held in early May, but SEE president Gretchen Dellinger said the preparation was on track.
“We’re not behind schedule no matter what it seems,” Dellinger said. “We’re waiting for the contracts… They’re literally in the mail right now.”
SEE did not make an official lineup announcement until April 12 last year, which Donna Lim, the assistant director of programs at Stamp Student Union, said was the latest announcement since 1995. Last year, Lim told The Diamondback SEE had “run into a few snafus,” which was why the event got rolling so late.
When The Diamondback learned from a source on April 8 last year Guster would be playing that year’s Art Attack, SEE would not confirm it until the group’s official announcement four days later.
In previous years, the organization released information about the concert as early as mid-March.
It takes at least a few months lead time to book an artist for such a large event, said Megan Kesler, an assistant for the Agency Group, a firm that books events for bands such as 2004 Art Attack headliner The Ataris.
Dellinger said she cannot divulge details of her negotiations – including the names of the artists – until the contracts are finalized. She also declined to release details about how many acts would perform at the event, but said she was confident and “very excited” for the show. The lineup would also complement the musical events that occurred on the campus this year, including Ben Folds, Ben Kweller and Michael Tolcher.
Student Government Association Chief of Staff Devin Ellis expressed his confidence in SEE.
“It feels like we’ve seen the SEE people be very confident about their work this year,” Ellis said. “We look forward to their decision.”
