We here at Terps Watch have written about this man before, and of course, you know that if a former Terp is playing professional sports, we will be on top of that.
For those who have been living under a rock and I’m sorry that you are, there are currently two Terrapins in Major League Baseball: Adam Kolarek and Brandon Lowe. They also happen to play for the same team, the Tampa Bay Rays.
Well, the Rays currently have the best record in baseball, thanks to the contributions from these two players, especially Lowe. He won the AL Rookie of the Month in April, hitting .289/.350/.567 with six home runs, five doubles, one triple, 17 RBIs and three stolen bases in his first 25 games of the season.
He hasn’t stopped there because why would he? He’s up to eight home runs and 22 RBI , hitting .311 on the season.
Also, he did this on Tuesday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

You saw that correctly, on the first pitch of the game…for the Rays at least, Lowe hit a moonshot home run to center field to put the Rays up 1-0 pretty quickly. Lowe was taken in the third round of the 2015 MLB Draft and his performance so far this season is definitely making a few teams regret picking him earlier.
Also, since we didn’t report about it earlier, sorry to all of you for not getting the Brandon Lowe fix you deserve, but Lowe did win the AL Rookie of the Month, which is quite amazing for a player who batted .233 in 42 games in 2018.

He had a rough start to his MLB career, but things look like they are on the up and up for the second baseman/outfield maestro.
Our first Rookie of the Month since 2013 led all rookies for April in:
– R
– H
– XBH
– HR
– RBI
– BB

Also also (there’s a lot of also’s), several minutes after the award was announced, he hit a go-ahead, game-winning home run in the ninth inning against the Kansas City Royals in their series finale to split the four-game set. Some clutch hitting already for our neighborhood Terrapin.
