Three Terrapins women’s soccer players were given All-ACC honors Thursday afternoon. Forwards Hayley Brock and Becky Kaplan were named to the All-ACC second team. Midfielder Ashley Spivey was named to the All-Freshman team.
Spivey is the Terps’ only freshman representative on the All-Freshman team and the first Terp to be named to the list since 2009. She has started every game this season for the Terps, recording five goals and three assists, totaling 13 points.
Kaplan has scored nine goals this season — the second most on the team. She’s started 18 games and has recorded four assists and 22 points this season. The senior from Oyster Bay, N.Y., has scored five game-winning goals for the Terps and has recorded the most shots (44) and shots on goal (28) for the Terps.
Brock has started in 16 of the Terps’ 19 games and has scored a team-high 10 goals this season. The junior from Acton, Mass., also leads the team in points (26) and assists (6).
Brock’s honor comes just two weeks after she was involved in a brawl at Ludwig Field with Miami on Oct. 18. Brock, along with two Hurricanes, were awarded red cards, escorted from the field and banned from their next two contests. Brock’s first game back in the lineup will be Friday night in the semi-final match of the ACC Championship tournament against Wake Forest in Cary, N.C.
“I’m not sure if Hayley will be our starter on Friday,” coach Jonathan Morgan said this week. “She’ll certainly play most of the game, though. We’re excited to have her back in the lineup because she’s always a threat when she has the ball.”
