Tamagotchis, frosted hair tips and Furbies: Those were the days right? Aside from digital pets and embarrassing hairstyles, the early 2000s gifted us with something else — music. When you think of this specific time period, you might instantly imagine the Backstreet Boys or the Spice Girls. Now that we’re on the same page, let’s talk about some of the underrated songs of this period. This should be interesting.
- You Got It — NSYNC
Considering it did not make the Greatest Hits album, it deserves some sort of recognition. This song triumphs over the billion creepy “I want you to want me” Taylor Swift songs … any day. This song may have debuted in 1998, but it’s timeless, so the year is irrelevant.

Suga Suga — Baby Bash ft. Frankie J
This song was probably the climax of Baby Bash’s music career. Let’s celebrate it. It begs the question: “Suga Suga, how ya get so fly?” Although we may never be able to cure his curiosity, we can appreciate the song. That is exactly why it’s the most played song on my Spotify.

Hit ‘Em Up Style — Blu Cantrell
After a breakup, I like to take my anger out on a pint of Ben and Jerry’s —clearly, that method of coping is too conventional for Blu Cantrell. She blows all of her exes’ dough and brings her friends along for the ride. Aka, she was the ultimate badass and puts Taylor Swift to shame.

Summer Girls — LFO
I listen to this song year-round, as everyone should. Even though the lyrics are completely non sequitur, it’s catchy and should make you smile. I hope I’m not the only one who remembers them performing this on The Amanda Show.
