According to Inside Maryland Sports, Rasheed Sulaimon has joined the Greensboro Swarm, the D-League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets.
Sulaimon will have a chance to impress the Hornets in their upcoming training camp, as well as during preseason games. It is not likely, but a very strong display in Charlotte’s preseason could give Sulaimon a chance to start the season in the NBA.
By joining the Swarm, Sulaimon has decided that he would rather fight for a spot in the NBA than sign with an overseas team that would give him a good chance to start.
He’ll be less than an hour away from where he started his NCAA career at Duke, which stands in contrast to three other former Terps who have decided to go to Europe. Dez Wells and Evan Smotrycz have both signed with teams in Germany, while Robert Carter will find himself in Italy.
Diamond Stone and Jake Layman are signed to guaranteed NBA contracts and should both get playing time this upcoming season. By joining the Swarm, Sulaimon is putting himself in the best position possible to join his former teammates.
