Long pole Matt Neufeldt won Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Maryland men’s lacrosse team’s 15-11 victory over then-No. 1 Penn State on Saturday.
Neufeldt picked up four ground balls and equaled his career-high with four forced turnovers. He helped the Terps commit four fewer team turnovers than the Nittany Lions and win the faceoff battle, 20-10.
Neufeldt has won three Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week awards in his career. However, this is his first honor of the current campaign.
The Naperville, Illinois, native, missed last season with an ACL injury. But he leads Maryland in caused turnovers (13) and is tied for second in ground balls (28) this year.
Neufeldt will look to continue his defensive excellence Wednesday at No. 5 Albany.
