Here’s a screenshot of the email sent to alert the faculty of parking issues caused by Veep filming on campus for the next two weeks.
This university’s campus was recently ranked as the 17th ugliest in the country, but the location managers for Veep certainly don’t agree: HBO’s award-winning political comedy is filming here for two weeks.
Fresh off two Emmy Awards, the show has started shooting its third season, which will air in the spring. Veep cast and crew will be on campus from Oct. 2 – 15. No word on the specific location of the cameras, but we do know there will be parking issues.
Faculty members received an email from DOTS Operations Manager Deborah Wiley yesterday afternoon that detailed the inconvenience (see image). Veep has reserved several parking spaces on Farm Drive near the Cambridge Community Center and in lots MM1, (by La Plata Beach), Q (next to the Computer and Space Sciences building) and 4b (behind Comcast Center). In lot Q, the reserved spots are for a food truck; bets on whether it has real food and whether students can actually buy it?
Parts of National Treasure 2 were also filmed on McKeldin Mall and in McKeldin Library in 2007. The university’s movie scene fame dates back to 1985 with St. Elmo’s Fire, starring Rob Lowe, Demi Moore and Ally Sheedy as recent college graduates who don’t know how to function in the real world. The college scenes are fictitiously set at Georgetown University, but our cross-town rivals were too pretentious to allow film crews on campus. Their loss, our gain.
