The Maryland women’s lacrosse team continued its dominance in Big Ten weekly awards as two players earned accolades Tuesday.

Senior goalkeeper Emily Kift was named Big Ten Co-Defender of the Week and attacker Brindi Griffin received Freshman of the Week honors after Maryland’s 17-4 victory over Johns Hopkins on Sunday.

Kift, starting for the third time in her career, filled in for an injured Megan Taylor, who has won the weekly award four times this season and was coming off an 18-save performance against Syracuse on March 11.

The senior played just 16 minutes all season prior to Saturday’s start. She stopped 10 shots, earning a save percentage of .714. She helped the No. 1 Terps (7-0) allow their second-fewest goals this season.

Coach Cathy Reese said Kift “didn’t miss a beat” as Taylor’s replacement.

Griffin, meanwhile, scored two goals and added an assist for a career-high three points as the team piled on at least 17 goals for the fourth straight game, and fifth time this season. She now has three goals and three assists on the season.

The Terps take on No. 12 Pennsylvania on Wednesday night before traveling to face James Madison on Saturday afternoon.
