After seven seasons with Maryland men’s basketball, assistant coach Dustin Clark is leaving the program to pursue an opportunity at a family business in Texas, the team announced Monday.
Coach Mark Turgeon named Matt Brady, who has served as director of player personnel since last summer, an assistant coach to fill the vacancy. Brady was an assistant at La Salle in 2015 before joining Turgeon’s staff.
“As I look back at the success we’ve had, it’s been Dustin who has made an indelible mark each step of the way,” Turgeon said in a statement. “When Dustin shared with me this opportunity, I knew it aligned with his entrepreneurial spirit and his desire to be close to his family. Ann and I are excited for him and wish him all the best, and I look forward to continuing our friendship.”

After serving with Turgeon for four years at Texas A&M, Clark followed him to Maryland in May 2011. Clark spent two seasons as the Terps’ director of basketball operations before moving up to assistant coach in November 2013. With his guidance, Maryland won a program-high 27 regular-season games in 2014-15 and reached the Sweet Sixteen in 2016.
Considered a strong recruiter, Clark helped bring in guard Anthony Cowan and forwards Kevin Huerter and Bruno Fernando, along with incoming freshman Aaron Wiggins.
“I have felt unspeakable pride everyday over the last seven years wearing Maryland on my chest,” Clark said in the release. “This is a special place that loves basketball. The passion our fans have for Maryland basketball, our players, and our recruiting makes this one of the best places in America to play and coach.”
