After starting the season 2-0 with wins over Bucknell and Richmond, Maryland men’s lacrosse remained the No. 3 team in the Inside Lacrosse media poll and USILA coaches poll.
The Terps had a chance to move up to the No. 2 spot after High Point upset then-No. 2 Duke 13-9 on Wednesday. But given Maryland’s narrow 10-9 win over Richmond, and then-No. 4 Loyola’s 17-9 win over then-No. 6 Virginia, the Greyhounds jumped ahead of the Terps into the No. 2 ranking.

Of the teams featured in these first renderings of the regular season polls, four teams are from the state of Maryland in both rankings. Furthermore, all six teams from the Big Ten are ranked in the media poll and five teams are ranked in the coaches poll, with Michigan also receiving votes.
In the media poll, Penn State rose from No. 9 to No. 4, while No. 8 Rutgers also entered the top-10 following a 2-0 start to the season. Ohio State rose to No. 12 and Michigan registered at No. 19, but Johns Hopkins dropped 10 spots to No. 17 after its season-opening loss to Towson.

Coach John Tillman and his third-ranked squad will travel to Philadelphia to play Penn this Saturday. Penn is receiving votes in the coaches poll and will be playing its first game of the regular season after finishing 7-8 in 2018.
