Another

If you’re like me, you’re probably staying in on Halloween night because you have class on Friday morning. But class shouldn’t stop you from celebrating the holiday. My favorite way to spend a (non-partying) Halloween is by watching all sorts of spooky and creepy movies and things.

If you like to watch anime, Another is probably your best bet. The 12-episode series covers the story of a mysterious death from the 70s that has cursed a high school class. Teachers and students are both dying in gruesome and mysterious ways because of the curse and only the two main characters can figure out what’s going on. If that’s too spooky for you, try giving Soul Eater a watch. This show has Halloween-esque themes (witches, demons and death lords) but is much lighter hearted. The story surrounds special humans who are able to turn into weapons, like scythes, guns and swords, and the meisters that can use these weapons. The school of children who have these abilities must fight against witches and demons to ensure their safety.

As for movies, if you don’t want to sleep at night, you should probably watch Ju-On, the original Japanese version of The Grudge. The original version of the movie is uncut and not watered down, like how The Grudge had to be. It follows the story of the tenants of an apartment after a jealous husband went mad and killed his wife and child. If you want something more lighthearted, give Paranorman, a comedy zombie flick, a shot.

You can never go wrong with It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, which is shown on TV yearly. If you don’t have the means of watching anything above, I’m sure Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon will be showing their usual marathon of Halloween specials.
