Prince George’s County Police have released the name of the 19-year-old man who was arrested early Saturday morning on charges of breaking into a student’s off-campus home in a suspected domestic dispute.
Coty Nix, who is a resident of Halethorpe, was arrested after police said he kicked in the door of a home on the 9300 block of St. Andrews Place in College Park Woods.
Nix, who was allegedly dating one of a group of visitors to the house, broke into the house and made several verbal threats to the students in the off-campus home, police said.
One of the student residents of the home, Alex Mari, a junior criminal justice and criminology and sociology major, shot two rounds from his handgun into the ground to “alleviate the situation,” he said. Mari is a Marine and an officer of the Washington Special Police Forces.
District 1 Commander Robert Liberati said he could not release the names of the students renting the home nor their guests.
After Mari fired his weapon, Nix and seven other people drove away. Police pulled over Nix’s vehicle shortly after witnesses reported the license plate number.
No one other than Nix was arrested, but Liberati said he is presenting the case to the state attorney’s office to investigate whether other arrests should be made. Nix’s bond has yet to be set.
Nix also has an upcoming court appearance in Ellicott City on Jan. 31 for a peace order — which mandates he cannot have any contact with the male plaintiff who filed a petition for protection — against him in an unrelated case.
Nix was not available for comment.
