Ready to rock?

If you’re looking for a change of pace, the DC101 Chili Cook-Off is the perfect pre-finals event for you. The festival, celebrating its 34th year in a row, will take place on Saturday, May 4th at RFK Stadium Grounds in D.C.

The name, DC101, aside from being the area’s rock station, comes from the fact that 101 competitors partake in a chili cook-off in the categories of salsa, freestyle, red chili, and green chili. The winner in the red chili category has the opportunity to compete in the International Chili Society World Championship (yes, it does exist).

For those who just don’t appreciate the fine art that is chili making, don’t worry. DC101 assures, “There will be lots of different food vendors selling food other than chili on the festival site.”

Coupled with endless amounts of chili, every year, various rock artists perform throughout the festival on one main stage. This year, AWOLNATION, Silversun Pickups, and Soundgarden are among the acts performing, along with Capital Cities, Beware of Darkness, and RDLDGRN.

If you’re still not convinced, the DC101 Chili Cook-Off raises money for the National Capital Area chapter of the National Kidney Foundation, which works to educate about and prevent kidney and urinary tract diseases.

Rain or shine, attending the cook-off could be possibly the easiest way to relax before the madness of finals begins, all the while listening to great live music, eating yummy food, and supporting a good cause.

Tickets for this rain or shine event can be purchased here. Gates open at 12 p.m.
