The field of Democratic gubernatorial candidates who hope to unseat Maryland’s Republican Gov. Larry Hogan shrunk by one Friday, after Maya Rockeymoore Cummings announced she would be leaving the race “due to personal considerations.”
The candidate’s emailed statement did not elaborate on specific reasons, according to The Baltimore Sun.

Rockeymoore Cummings, a public policy consultant and the wife of U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), was the last to join a crowded field of Democrats hoping to unseat Hogan this November.
While Rockeymoore Cummings has been involved in politics for decades, this is her first time running for office, the Sun reported. She gained the endorsement of Emily’s List, a national political group that focuses on electing pro-choice female candidates. She was one of two women in the Democratic field, the other being Krish Vignarajah, a former policy adviser to former first lady Michelle Obama.

“I thank all of the people across the country who have supported my campaign and those whom I have met on the campaign trail who also fervently believe that we can and must do better for the people of Maryland,” her statement read.
