The Terrapin volleyball team (5-8, 1-0 ACC) is hitting Tobacco Road this weekend for matchups against North Carolina (6-5, 0-0) on Friday and N.C. State (6-9, 0-0) on Sunday, their first ACC road games of the season.

The team struggled in away games last year, only 2-9 on the road in conference compared to 8-3 at home. So their ACC-opener win against Boston College on Tuesday may not translate to road success against North Carolina and N.C. State.

“I expect they’re both going to come out and compete hard,” coach Tim Horsmon said. “If we don’t come out and do the same, we’re probably not going to do well.”

North Carolina won at No. 12 Minnesota 3-2 on Saturday, and the game against the Terps is the first ACC match for the Tar Heels, giving them extra motivation.

The Terps, on the other hand, have finally turned around their year with a season-best three-match win streak.

“We just keep getting better,” middle blocker Katie Usher said. “We’re slowly getting there. We need to get there a lot faster, but I’m glad we’re headed in the right direction.”
