Good eats, good conscious

With a line that often wraps around the building, it is clear that Chipotle is one of students’ favorite restaurants. The wonderful thing about Chipotle is not only is it good food, but essentially anyone can find a meal to eat there.

As it says in their Special Diet Information section of their website, “No matter what your unique dietary needs are, Chipotle has options for you. Unless you have an allergy to delicious food, in which case, we might have an issue.”

Chipotle provides both a list of ingredients and a list of your options to put in a burrito, bowl, salad, or taco. Next to the list of options to put in your food it lists whether or not the dish contains: eggs, fish, milk, peanuts, shellfish, soybeans, tree nuts, or wheat and gluten.

Fortunately for those with gluten allergies, the only foods that we cannot eat are the flour tortillas, but they do have crispy corn tortillas. Other than that, we can eat all of our favorite burrito bowl ingredients. The only other food to be aware of would be the Garden Blend, but that is only in select locations.

Perhaps even more exciting for people with nut and peanut allergies, Chipotle does not use any. There are no limitations to what someone with a nut allergy can eat, and the same goes for people with fish allergies. Even for milk and eggs, there are only one or two ingredients for each, but they are the obvious ones like cheese or sour cream.

The only people that should be concerned are those of you that have soybean allergies. Most of the ingredients at Chipotle have some sort of soy-derived ingredient and they warn on the website to be cautious.

In addition to the allergies that are listed, they provide a list of different vegan and vegetarian options. The pinto beans are cooked with bacon, so they advise you to only have the black beans, and to obviously avoid the meats.

Chipotle also finds it important that people care about what they eat, and where their food is coming from. It’s called Food With Integrity — the animals are naturally raised and the food comes from family owned farms. There is a very large focus on finding the best ingredients while also having respect for the animals, the farmers and the environment.

A burrito bowl and a clean conscious? That’s something you can sink your teeth into.
