University of Maryland finance professor Michael Faulkender was nominated for assistant secretary of the Treasury for economic policy on Tuesday night, the White House announced.
Faulkender is also the associate dean of master’s programs at the business school, and previously held faculty positions at Washington University in St. Louis and Northwestern University, where he earned his doctorate in finance. He earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of California at Davis, Bloomberg reported.
In a Vimeo post made by the Ed Snider center at the business school, Faulkender said his research concerns the “impact of the international corporate tax system on firm financial decisions,” particularly how “the structure of the way the US taxes multinationals overseas operations impact[s] their financial structure.”
Faulkender’s research focuses on empirical corporate finance in capital structure, risk management and executive compensation, according to his bio on the business school’s website. He’s been recognized by students as the “Best Core Faculty Member” twice, and as the “Most Engaged Professor” once.
