The rankings measured how LGBTQ+-friendly colleges are based on academic quality, affordability and the Campus Pride Index.
Oliveira began the position this summer after the university’s diversity, equity and inclusion office conducted a yearlong search for a new director. The center’s former acting director, Shige Sakurai, resigned in 2022.

Sakurai will retire Feb. 6 and start their new position at the Unitarian Universalist Association on Feb. 7.
The event was shared by this university’s LGBTQ+ Equity Center on social media and aimed to help attendees learn how to be better allies to the transgender community.
Community members commended the change, calling it a pathway for more inclusivity on campus.
