“We figured he’d be a .300-type hitter, give you consistent defense in the outfield and be a guy who can run the bases and give you speed,” coach John Szefc said.
“I just look back and think of how proud I am of every player that’s come through here the past four years and how hard they’ve worked to get this program back to where it needs to be,” Layman said.
“We’ve kind of been the odd man out all year long,” said guard Kelsey Plum, who finished with 32 points, seven assists and six rebounds. “People kind of said, ‘Eh, Washington. Not their year.”
