Prince George’s County District 5 voters headed to the polls on Tuesday for a special primary election to elect their next county council member.

Five Democrats and one Republican are running for the vacant seat after former District 5 council member Jolene Ivey won her at-large council special election last November. The district includes Bladensburg, Landover and Springdale.

Marine Corps veteran Fred Price Jr. is the lone Republican running for the seat.

The five Democrats running are:

  • Former PGCPS school board member Shayla Adams-Stafford
  • Middle school teacher Theresa Mitchell Dudley
  • Former county auditor Kendal Gray
  • Attorney Ryan Middleton
  • Cheverly Town Council member Christopher Wade

Adams-Stafford and Price have each won their respective primaries after the Maryland State Board of Elections released official results on Friday.

Adams-Stafford earned nearly 50 percent of the vote in the Democratic primary, while Price ran unopposed in the Republican race.

Adams-Stafford and Price are expected to face off in the June 3 general election, as both candidates are firmly in control of their respective races.

Adams-Stafford holds nearly 50 percent of the vote in the Democratic race, according to unofficial results at 7:08 p.m. on Friday. Middleton is in second place with about 28 percent of the vote.

Price — who is running unopposed — still has 100 percent of the vote.

More than 8,800 votes have been counted in the election so far.

Adams-Stafford has stretched her lead over Middleton for the Democratic nomination, earning more than 50 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results at 7:14 p.m. on Thursday. Middleton has about 26 percent of the vote.

Price — who is running unopposed — still has 100 percent of the vote.

4,825 votes have been counted in the election so far.

Adams-Stafford leads the race for the Democratic nomination with about 47 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results at 12:40 a.m. Middleton trails with about 30 percent of the vote.

Price — who is running unopposed — still has 100 percent of the vote.

2,690 votes have been counted in the election so far.

Adams-Stafford leads the race for the District 5 county council seat with about 48 percent of the vote. Middleton trails with about 28 percent of the vote, and Gray follows with about 8 percent of the vote.

Price has secured 100 percent of the Republican vote so far with 44 votes.

There have been 1,946 votes unofficially counted in the election so far.
