University of Maryland Facilities Management restored water in nine North Hill community dorms after a water outage, according to a Wednesday morning email to residents from Residential Facilities.

The emergency water outage was caused by a water main break near the Architecture building on Tuesday. The water main break affected Dorchester, Anne Arundel, Queen Anne’s, Somerset, Wicomico, Worcester, Carroll, Caroline and Prince Frederick Halls, according to a Tuesday night email from Residential Facilities.

The outage initially only impacted five dorms in the North Hill community, an update at about 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday said.

Residents may initially notice cloudiness in the water, Wednesday’s email said, which should dissipate after running the water for a few moments.

During the outage, Residential Facilities urged affected residents to not use sinks, toilets, showers or laundry equipment and gave them temporary access to alternative bathroom options.

This incident comes after a hot water outage that affected North Hill residents on Thursday afternoon. Denton Community and Oakland Hall residents were also impacted by a separate water main break identified Thursday night, which left them without hot and cold water until just after 6 a.m.
