University of Maryland Facilities Management restored hot and cold water to four dorms after an overnight water outage, according to an email from Residential Facilities sent Friday morning to Denton Community and Oakland Hall residents.

The outage stemmed from a water main break near the Denton Community, according to an 11:30 p.m. email on Thursday from Residential Facilities informing Denton Community and Oakland Hall residents of the outage.

As of 6:15 a.m., water service in Denton, Easton, Elkton and Oakland halls was restored, Friday’s email said.

Residents may initially notice cloudiness in the water, according to the email, which should dissipate after running the water for a few minutes.

During the outage, Residential Facilities urged residents not to use sinks, toilets, showers or laundry equipment in the affected dorms and gave them temporary access to alternative bathroom options.

The latest emergency outage came after a separate hot water outage in the North Hill community was restored Thursday afternoon.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this story misstated that Thursday’s hot water outage in the North Hill community stemmed from a water main break. The outage was due to issues with equipment that provides hot water to dorms. This story has been updated.
