Maryland women’s soccer coach Meghan Ryan Nemzer will no longer lead the program, Maryland athletics announced in a release Thursday. Michael Marchiano, who was previously assistant coach, will be the interim head coach.
Marchiano will serve as interim head coach for the rest of the season, starting with Thursday night’s game against Penn State, the release said. Nemzer was head coach since 2022 with a 10-25-14 record.
“We thank Meg for her service in leading the women’s soccer program since 2022,” Damon Evans, Maryland’s athletic director, said in the release. “We wish her well in her future endeavors.”
Nemzer came to Maryland after 14 years as an assistant coach and associate head coach at Rutgers. The coach went 3-21-2 in Big Ten play at Maryland and hasn’t won a conference game since 2022, her first year in College Park.
Marchiano, a Maryland alum, joined the Terps’ staff ahead of this season. He was previously Drexel men’s soccer’s head coach from 2020 to 2022 and the first coach since the 1980s to maintain a winning record for the program.
The athletics department will begin a national search for a permanent head coach for the program, according to the release.
