Defender Brett St. Martin has been selected with the No. 50 overall pick in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft by Sporting Kansas City.

St. Martin is the second Maryland men’s soccer player to be selected in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft, after midfielder Ben Bender was selected with the No. 1 overall pick by Charlotte FC.

“Brett St. Martin has been a tremendous leader in our program for four seasons and I’m thrilled to see him headed to Sporting Kansas City,” coach Sasho Cirovski said. “Brett is a homegrown talent and national champion who was a great representative of our program on and off the field.”

The Terp defender made 61 appearances over his four seasons at Maryland, winning a national championship in 2018 during his freshman season.

The center back helped to captain the team during his junior and senior seasons, and was named to the 2021 All-Big Ten First Team as well as the 2021 United Soccer Coaches All-North Region.

St. Martin played high school soccer at Mount St. Joseph and youth soccer with Baltimore Celtic before joining Maryland.
