Maryland-National Capital Park Police responded to an incident involving a University of Maryland student on the Paint Branch Trail on Tuesday night, according to an alert sent by University Police.

A female student was jogging on the trail near Pierce Avenue and Rhode Island Avenue at about 7 p.m. when she was approached by a male in dark clothing wearing a black backpack, according to the alert.

After the jogger was able to “deflect” the male’s movement, she ran away, the alert read. The male ran into the woods and hasn’t been seen since.

A review of cameras in the area is underway, and Park Police are conducting an investigation, according to the alert.
