Patrick Mullins

The Greater New Orleans Sports Selection Committee has named Patrick Mullins of the Terrapins men’s soccer team as its Outstanding Male Amateur Athlete of the Year for New Orleans.

The committee, which is sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, will honor Mullins as well as 26 other individuals and two teams at the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame banquet at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Mullins, a former Jesuit High School star, won the 2012 Hermann Trophy, which is the awarded to the best player in NCAA Division I soccer, after leading the Terps with 17 goals and 10 assists last season. The forward also helped lead the Terps to the College Cup, where they lost to Georgetown in penalty kicks of the NCAA semifinals.

Mullins’ senior season will begin Aug. 30 when the Terps travel to Palo Alto, Calif., to take on Stanford.
