The Terrapins men’s basketball team drew a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament and will play No. 12-seed South Dakota State on Friday at approximately 4:30 p.m. in Spokane, Washington. The Terps are in the south region where No. 1 overall seed Kansas is.

If the Terps advance past the Jackrabbits on Friday, they will play the winner of No. 4-seed California and No. 13-seed Hawaii on Sunday.

This is the second straight season the Terps have made the NCAA Tournament. They earned a No. 4 seed last year. In that tournament, the Terps topped Valparaiso before falling to West Virginia in the round of 32.

The Terps have now appeared in 26 NCAA Tournaments and have won at least one game in their last 11 appearances dating back to 1998.

South Dakota State, which won the Summit League Championship to earn an NCAA automatic big, finished the season 26-7. The Jackrabbits, who are led by three players who average at least 14 points per game, have won six straight games.

The Terps, meanwhile, have dropped five of their past eight contests. They defeated Nebraska in the Big Ten quarterfinals before falling to Michigan State on Saturday.
