Maryland goalkeeper Rachel Egyed was named Big Ten goalkeeper of the week Tuesday after allowing just one goal in 220 minutes against UCF and George Washington.

In the two games, Egyed faced 38 shots and made 15 saves, leading the Terps to consecutive draws despite a slumping attack that’s scored just once in the past five contests.

The standout performances lowered the redshirt senior’s goals against average to .80. Last season, her 1.36 average was good enough to earn her third-team All-Big Ten and preseason All-Big Ten honors.

At the beginning of the year, Egyed split time in goal with fellow goalkeeper Erin Seppi; each goalkeeper played half of the Terps’ first three contests. However, after a career-high nine saves against Drexel and a string of in-form play last week, Egyed solidified herself as the Terps’ go-to option in goal.

Egyed’s improved performance in net and the stability of the backline will be key for the Terps as they prepare for their Big Ten opener against Iowa on Friday.
