In response to a rape that took place Saturday morning, Prince George’s County detectives canvassed a College Park neighborhood to obtain more information about the incident.

On Saturday at about 6 a.m. on the 4500 block of Fordham Lane, a man broke into a woman’s apartment and raped her, according to a University of Maryland safety notice. The woman had been sleeping when she realized she was being sexually penetrated. She initially thought the man was her boyfriend but made a noise when she realized he was not. The man fled the apartment.

The door to the building and apartment were unlocked at the time of the incident, according to the safety notice.

The search began at 4 p.m. on Saturday and started in the same area where the rape occurred.

The search did not yield any helpful results, an official from the county police’s Sexual Assault Unit said.

Police are encouraging anyone with information about this case to contact the Sexual Assault Unit at 301-772-4908.
