University of Maryland Police responded to reports of suspicious people, theft and vandalism, among other incidents this past week, according to police reports.

Vandalism

On Sunday at 10:47 p.m., University Police responded to Commons 7 for a report of vandalism. A male employee reported that two exit signs were ripped out of their brackets on the apartment building’s sixth floor.

It is unknown when the exit signs were last seen intact, University Police spokeswoman Sgt. Rosanne Hoaas said, and there are no cameras located where the incident occurred. This case is suspended.

Assault

University Police responded at 6:10 a.m. Sunday to Commons 3, where a female student reported to police that she was being followed by a man.

The student said she was walking toward Commons 3 when the man — who has no affiliation with this university — began talking to her, Hoaas said. The man then put his arm around the victim’s waist and began to guide her in the opposite direction, Hoaas said. She was able to get away from the man and notify police.

The suspect was issued a denial of access to the campus, and the victim received information from the Office of Civil Rights and Sexual Misconduct, Hoaas said. This case is closed, and the reporting student chose not to press charges.

Suspicious person

University Police responded to the Main Administration Building for a report of suspicious person on Friday at 2:35 p.m.

A female faculty member reported that she received a phone call from a man who wanted to talk to the provost about getting his tuition money back, Hoaas said. Toward the end of their conversation the man made an odd comment, and the woman reported the incident to University Police, Hoaas said.

Another university faculty member informed the reporting person that the same man came into their office, asking for the provost, Hoaas said. University Police were able to locate the man afterward and eventually determined he was not a threat. This case is closed.

Theft

On Friday at 3:54 p.m., University Police responded to Francis Scott Key Hall for a report of theft.

This case is open and active.

Disorderly Conduct

University Police responded to 7-Eleven at 4404 Knox Road on Saturday for a report of disorderly conduct. This case is closed.

Missing person/runaway

University Police responded to the Mathematics Building on Monday at 11:12 p.m. for a report of a missing person.

This case is closed.
