Every week, staff writer James Crabtree-Hannigan will take a look at the careers of a number of former Maryland athletes embarking on professional careers in a variety of leagues. Every Monday, it’s former baseball players. The stats are from games through June 12.

The 2016 Major League Baseball draft took place last weekend and three Terps pitchers were selected: Mike Shawaryn (5th round, Boston Red Sox), Mike Rescigno (25th round, San Francisco Giants) and Rob Galligan (36th round, Arizona Diamondbacks). They could begin pitching for their respective organizations in the future.

Brett Cecil, LHP, Toronto Blue Jays

2016 stats: 0-5, 5.23 ERA, 9 strikeouts, 3 walks, 17 hits, 10.1 innings pitched

Skinny: Cecil remains on the disabled list recovering from a torn lat. He has not pitched since May 14.

Justin Maxwell, OF, Pawtucket Red Sox (Boston Red Sox Triple-A affiliate)

2016 stats: .223 average, .317 on-base percentage, 5 HR, 22 RBI, 49 strikeouts, 22 walks

Skinny: The Boston Red Sox have suffered some injuries to outfielders in recent weeks, but Maxwell has yet to receive a promotion to the big leagues. Maxwell went 1-4 on June 6 but has not gotten a hit in his last 17 at-bats.

Adam Kolarek, LHP, Durham Bulls (Tampa Bay Rays Triple-A affiliate)

2016 stats: 2-2, 4.00 ERA, 25 K, 13 BB, 16 H, 27 IP

Skinny: Prior to 2016, Kolarek’s longest stint in AAA was two games in 2013. But the Rays have given Kolarek a chance to prove himself with Durham, where he’s played for more than a month. He pitched twice this week, hitting the only Norfolk Tides batter he faced June 8 before surrendering three runs in two innings June 11 against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.

Jose Cuas, 3B, Brevard County Manatees (Milwaukee Brewers High-A affiliate)

2016 stats: .187 AVG, .267 OBP, 1 HR, 8 RBI, 56 K, 16 BB

Skinny: Cuas continues to struggle to raise his batting average with the Manatees, going 1-for-15 at the plate in his last five games.

Jake Stinnett, RHP, Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Chicago Cubs High-A affiliate)

2016 stats: 4-3, 4.24 ERA, 46 K, 19 BB, 57.1 IP

Skinny: Stinnett is working through his first season in High-A as part of Myrtle Beach’s starting rotation. In his start against the Lynchburg Hillcats June 9, Stinnett went 5.1 innings, giving up three runs on seven hits. He struck out six as the losing pitcher.

LaMonte Wade, OF, Cedar Rapids Kernels (Minnesota Twins Single-A affiliate)

2016 stats: .309 AVG, .433 OBP, 4 HR, 27 RBI, 23 K, 40 BB

Skinny: Wade is still performing well in the Midwest League and walking nearly twice as often as he’s striking out. This week, he went 1-for-9 at the plate but walked twice, got hit by a pitch once and picked up his fifth stolen base of the season.

Jake Drossner, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Milwaukee Brewers Single-A affiliate)

2016 stats: 1-5, 4.70 ERA, 41 K, 23 BB, 38.1 IP

Skinny: After not pitching for 11 days, Drossner returned to the mound June 11 and showed no signs of rust, tossing two perfect innings and striking out three batters.

Brandon Lowe, 2B, Bowling Green Hot Rods (Tampa Bay Rays Single-A affiliate)

2016 stats: .253 AVG, .356 OBP, 0 HR, 15 RBI, 38 K, 22 BB

Zach Morris, LHP, Lakewood BlueClaws (Philadelphia Phillies Single-A affiliate)

2016 stats: 3-1, 3.48 ERA, 24 K, 14 BB, 31 IP
