The Maryland men’s lacrosse team is tied for the No. 1 spot in the nation after defeating Saint Joseph’s and High Point last week.

Though previously top-ranked Denver remains undefeated, the Terps, who entered the season at No. 2, received the same number of votes as the Pioneers in this week’s media poll.

Maryland has scored 50 goals in three games, continuing its spell as one of the best attacking teams in Division I lacrosse. While senior attackman Matt Rambo leads the squad with 19 points on nine goals and 10 assists, coach John Tillman feels the offense has succeeded because of its balance.

Through three contests, 14 Terps have scored, and 12 of those players have notched at least two finishes.

Maryland also displayed an improved defense after conceding 12 goals to Navy in its season opener. Against Saint Joseph’s and High Point, the backline allowed eight and five goals, respectively, including just four total second-half scores.

The Terps will look to justify their new ranking this weekend in a home tilt against No. 8 Yale, which beat them, 8-5, last season.
