Maryland volleyball added another transfer to its 2018 roster with the commitment of outside hitter Hailey Rubino, a Leesburg, Virginia, native who spent her freshman year at New Mexico.

Rubino started 28 matches for the Lobos last season and was fourth on the team with 178 kills and 216 digs.

Before heading to New Mexico, Rubino attended Loudoun County High School and Paul VI Catholic High School in Virginia. In her senior year, Rubino was a second-team Under Armour All-American and a PrepVolleyball.com All-American.

Rubino bolsters one of Maryland’s deepest positions. Three outside hitters return from last year’s squad: senior Liz Twilley and sophomores Aylin Saran and Erika Pritchard. As well as the veterans, freshman outside hitter Emma Schriner joins the team in 2018.

In high school, Rubino played club volleyball for the Metro Volleyball Club of DC, playing alongside setter Nicole Alford, a transfer from Georgia Tech.
