While the future of our 2-4 football team might’ve been the first thing on everyone else’s mind when Maryland fired its head coach, Randy Edsall, the first thought in my head was ice cream.
What would happen to my beloved Rockin’ Randy ice cream flavor at the Maryland Dairy?
After a stop at the Dairy on Monday for a quick pick-me-up, I uncovered the answer.
Rockin’ Randy is “vanilla chocolate chip ice cream with chocolate marble swirl, Reese’s and Heath Bar pieces” — Edsall’s favorite ice cream toppings, according to the Dairy’s website.
I spotted a tub of ice cream that looked suspiciously similar to the fudge swirliness and peanut butter happiness that was Rockin’ Randy, but with a different label. After inquiring with the employee scooping my ice cream, I was told it was, in fact, Rockin’ Randy — but rebranded with a new name: ODK Krunch.

While the manager couldn’t tell me why Dining Services chose an honor society on the campus as the new namesake for a football-related flavor, I can now rest easy knowing that even if our football team is on the outs, we always have ice cream.
And basketball season.
